Today I’m sharing a solution to one of parents most common problems in kids rooms.
Nic nacks, gum wrappers, and cheap toys that lay around… usually these cheap toys come from kids birthday parties, dollar stores, etc. This list goes on and on! Perhaps maybe you want to foster your childs creativity, control the clutter, and do not where to start?
A few years ago we built this display case for my shark loving, skateboard loving son. He had quite the variety of items that he picked up along the way and wanted to keep all of them. So the solution was this display case that holds things dear to his heart.
This gave him the opportunity to:
- Decide which items he loved.
- Donate items that he wasn’t using.
- Allowed him to still be creative.
- Calmed down the clutter. (this made me super happy)
This way he was able to keep the precious items in his life and at the same time it looks really good on the wall. This has been up for at least 2 years and he still really loves it.
Check out this other one for inspiration. Here is Robyns version that her hubby built for her. She calls it her Cabinet of Curiosities. Super cute! Check out her full post on it here.
These two solutions are custom so I want to offer you a solution that is super easy and it comes from my design shop. What I love about this display case is that the wood offers a warm look, it’s minimal so that little gems can be stored in it, and it’s affordable at just over $63.00 Canadian dollars.
Heck! It would actually look good on the wall with nothing, displayed as art!

Let me know what you think of this concept, or what other ways are you keeping your kids room organized? I’d love to hear them.
